Happy New Years! 2011 was a year of change for me. I finished my first book, signed up for college, and started living in my house my husband and I have been remodelling. My resolutions for 2012 are to get my book published, get A++ in all my classes ;), and to have a really good time!

How To Make Butter ♥

Every once in awhile I like to include a fun "How To" post. This is a very fun, fast and easy way to make butter out of cream you buy from your local grocery store. Kids and grownups can both enjoy making butter!

You will need heavy cream. I used whipped for my butter and it turned out delicious ♥

You will also need a glass jar of some type such as this one. Mason jars will also work:

Let your cream sit out on the counter top for 12 hours at room temperature. I know it sounds yucky but the bacteria that is needed to make butter will be able to grow at this temperature instead of leaving it in the cold refrigerator.

Once you have waited 12 hours, pour the cream into your glass jar. It will be very thin to start but you will see the transformation soon.

Securely fasten the lid.

Now shake shake SHAKE that jar for 3 minutes! OR until you start to notice the cream is separating from the side of the jar and turning into a very thick buttery consistency (see picture above). Once you notice this shake for 1 more minute.

Open the jar and use the lid to hold the butter back and let the watery liquid poor into a separate glass.

Do you know what you have now in that glass? Butter milk! It is very yummy and great for cooking pancakes, biscuits and more.

Now poor some cold water in your jar with the butter then separate the water into the sink using the lid until you have only the butter left in the jar.

Enjoy your delicious hand made butter ♥

Life is a whirlwind of changes! I have been working on a new picture book dummy and here is a small glimpse of one of the finished illustrations. This is my first picture book and I have to say it is pretty enjoyable. In fact, I already have my next one written out!

Did I ever tell you how much I L♥VE making ATCs (artist trading cards)? They are so much fun! These were made for the "School" theme on Monday's Mail Flickr group. The reason I chose "School" as the theme is because I have been contemplating becoming a teacher! What do you think? Are you a teacher or know anyone who is? Do they enjoy their jobs? What grade/subject do they teach? I think the 3rd grade would be a lot of fun. Especially if we had art time everyday!!

Just finished making this greeting card for Monday's Mail. I love making greeting cards because there is so much room for creativity! I am thinking of printing this out and framing it as a gift for my great aunt.

Today I called the electric company in CO... our new house will have electricity by wednesday! Im SOO excited. The house was built in the 1940's so I just hope that it still works good enough for them to be able to hook it up.

Here is an update on my health.. it turns out I had an ectopic pregnancy instead of a miscarriage. I was rushed into emergency surgery. Keep in mind I have never been really sick or had surgery in my life!! The baby was pretty big and my tube was about to burst. They ended up having to remove my entire tube. It was the scariest thing I have ever gone through and I hope none of you have had to go through such a thing. After the surgery I had to go back to the hospital for chest pain...a nurse who did not know what she was talking about told me that I had a blood clot in my lung. But don't worry.. it turned out she did not know what she was talking about. Now I am just trying to heal as fast as possible. But after all of this, I really feel like I have been given a second chance at life. It has opened my eyes wide and clear! In fact.. me and my husband have decided to quit making ourselves miserable by staying in this town. We are moving to Colorado!! And man am I excited!! This is a goal that we have had for many many years. The house that we bought is a major fixer upper so stay tuned for lots of fun before and after pictures :)

Sad news

Hi everyone. Sadly I have to announce that I lost the baby. The doctor said that there was nothing wrong and that it is just something that happens. Suprisingly he said it happens in 1 out of 4 pregnancies. It was just not meant to happen yet. It's been really hard on me but I have to look at the good things that have come out of this. For example my husband got used to the idea of having a baby and would really like to try again. (but probably not for awhile beacause I need to recover mentally) I just want to say thanks to my family and friends for all of the support. I'm not going to give up or let this ruin my attitude on life.

On that note, I have made a few changes to http://www.mondayartday.ning.com/. It now has a new name 'Monday's Mail', a new banner, and each week a new theme with a big swap.

ATC stands for Artist Trading Cards... They are generally hand made and used for trading with fellow artists through the mail. The card size is 2.5"x3.5"

I made this awhile back but was frustrated and did not like it at the time so it never was posted. Why you ask? I dont know! Now that I look at it again.. I like it! I must have been in a hurry because I could have fixed the lettering in his belt but never did... oh well! Maybe next time I have my paints out I will fix his little belt :)

The theme for the swap is "In the Kitchen" so I looked around my kitchen and saw my favorite spatula! Its an awesome spatula.. I was a poor college student for so long and could only afford the plastic spatulas. You know.. the kind that sorta melt on the end and scare you cause you know you are eating that plastic?? So when I could finally afford this spatula it was truly a special day!! Kinda silly, huh? :)

Squirrel Girl in the Mountains!

Hi everyone!! A lot has changed around here... me and my husband are moving! The house is up for sale and as soon s we have a buyer we are moving to a house that we built together in the mountains. It will be a big adventure because there is no water or electricity! But we will eventually have both even if it is solar or water by catching rain. I can't waiiit!! There are wolves, mountain lions, falcons... all kinds of furry friends! We decided to move because we are tired of big mortgage payments and too many bills. Plus we will live in a place with more outdoor activities! Where we live now (in the desert) we have to drive atleast an hour for such things. I am SO excited!

My scanner is officially dead :( I was trying to fix the printer part of the machine by reinstalling the driver but that made the scanner not even work. So hopefully by the end of this upcoming week I can get a new scanner and have some new illustrations to show you! ^_^
